Compare and Contrast between Ancient and Modern Art, Music, Entertainment

Nowadays, people get stress from so many things in their life and they need something to make them relax. Obviously, the things that many people prefer are kinds of art, music, and entertainment. Well, ancient people did so. However, as time passed by, things are changed and everything is developed to be more complex. As well as these things, from only carve paintings, old instruments that made from wood and some kind of boxing game are now too old. Some of these things have made changes in civilization and developed to be today. So, art, music, and entertainment are meaning to say that there are so important to everyday life.

The most ancient civilizations developed their writing, schools, libraries, and written law codes from prehistory to history. For around 4000 years ago, art of the Mesopotamia had shaped the civilizations; art became more decorative at different times and places. (Ancient Art - Mesopotamia, 2007) Obviously, in each period of time, they were famous in different types of sculptures and developed until now. They made jewelry, huge stone sculptures, mosaic painted clay, and decorated tablets. (Martin, 2010) Well, these are the things that archaeologists had discovered; people did follow the way they did before so, meaning to say that everything is about the same. However, since the technology now is very developed, some are quite different from the past. More skills in painting have added to know in public, not only the artist knew but everyone has right to know. According to Wikipedia, many forms of art has invented by many famous artists during the twentieth century which is most likely to now. Art in today might not take that much of important to people because people do believe that it’s only one kind of hobby. Unlike Mesopotamia period, they did believe that this changed the civilizations of people.

Music, it’s a form of art whose medium is the sound. Music served the religious ceremonies and used for communicating and understanding each other by expressed through the sound. Also, people in the past believed that music is the voice from the god in which they did respect. (Lyman, 2009) They had many musical instruments, including the harp, reed pipes, drums, and the lyre. (Martin, 2010) To many people in many cultures, music is an important way of their way o life, so they did care about it. Now, people just think that music is consider as the performance that the performer should perform to us and do not take important of it because it’s not important enough in their opinion. Unfortunately it’s wrong, everyone needs to live with music, and the world without music might be worse. People now are not usually playing classic, they mostly play band instruments, for example; drum, electronic guitar, and keyboard in which the medium is different.

Art and Music are the form of entertainment. Not only that, games and festivals are also considered as the form of entertainment too. According to Wikipedia, hunting was so popular during that time, as well as boxing and wrestling are also popular too. Ancient Mesopotamians had ceremonies each month which determined by six important factors. Well, these kinds of entertainment are still available for the world today however; there are so many things that could use to entertain people more rather than the only thing in the past. This is all because of the development of people where everything is changed time by time. (Martin, 2010)


From the paragraphs above, it is meaning to say that art and music are the form of entertainment. Without art, there might not be music which is the form of art. Without art, entertainment might not occur. People today and Mesopotamians both need these for entertaining themselves during the festivals or just for relaxing. Even though these are both important to each period of time but still, there are some differences. Art during Mesopotamia period has formed the civilization of people for people today. As well as music, it used for many ceremonies which were important to the Mesopotamians during that time. Unlike the world today, these are just something that used to make people relax from the stress and they never look closely to the importance for each. They might not feel anything now, but as time goes by, this thing that everyone thinks that it’s not important, might take big change in the future for the next generation.

Ancient inventions and Modern inventions

Inventions from history help people today making things easier. Ancient inventions and modern inventions are different, but the use of these inventions is to make life easier. As time pass, technology developed more so inventions from the pass developed. Ancient inventions and modern inventions are more likely to be different. Nowadays, people need new inventions for modern lifestyle.

Nowadays, inventions have change the way people live. During ancient time, people invented stone wheel, which today that wheel developed to a cars. These ancient inventions played a large part in everyday life, which we have to use every day. In modern time, inventions had developed more and became more hi-tech because of technology. The ancient inventions had developed from stone tools to aluminum tools, which make these inventions more quality.

Another main different in old and new inventions is the tools. In ancient time, the tools uses in inventions are mostly stone, metal, and woods. But most invention often uses stronger tools with many kinds of power. For example electric power, hydroelectric power, wind power, and solar cell. Nowadays, modern invention spread everywhere, even in a small country. As people all use new inventions, the ancient inventions is starting to be gone because the modern inventions are easier to be use in today life. When people change over time, inventions also change to be more hi- tech for people to communicate and travel faster than in ancient time.

In present day, the world is full of new technology and inventions. These inventions had change the lifestyle of people today. In ancient time, people need to travel by carriage but in present day there are cars all around which make it easier to travel from place to place. All the inventions in the pass now have change and developed to new kinds which will make to fits style of people. Today without these inventions, many kinds of works would be hard. Computer is one of the most uses full inventions today, now people can research more and learn many things from internet.

There are many differences in ancient inventions and in modern inventions. But without this invention from Mesopotamian period our technology would not be this hi-tech. These ancient inventions played a large role in our daily life. Most of the modern inventions developed from the ancient inventions. Things developed more when time changes, people get to have more choice for new invention which will fit their lifestyle.

            Time is a very important thing in the world whether today or in the past. People started to measure time by notice the sun came up over the eastern horizon and went down at the western horizon. Around 1500 B.C., Mesopotamian people started to invent sundial to measure time by looking at the shadow during a day, but not during night time. In1957, The Hamilton Watch Co of Lancaster, Pennsylvania has produced the world first digital watch. People can measure time by just looking at their digital watch on their wrist. It will show the exact time with hour, minute, and second.  There are many differences between sundial and digital watch. These include the materials that use to make, the way to watch the time, and design.

            Materials that use to make sundial and digital watch are not the same materials because of the different between generations.  According to sundial history (n.d.) on accurate sundial website, Mesopotamian people used gnomon consisted of pillar. The length of the pillar’s shadow to tell people time during a day.  Sundial need to put on the space where the sun can light through. Nowadays, with a high technology, people invented microchip which will create a system and showed the time in number in a form of wristband (watch).  People will have more comfortable to know the time by just looking at their wrist. Digital watch can tell exact time no matter it is day time or night time with minute and second unlike sundial that can tell time during day time and but people need to predict minute and second by themselves. With a digital watch, it has functions in which sundial didn’t have which are timing, alarm clock, and it also telling date, day, and month.

            The way how people watch time in sundial and digital watch are also very different.  Taken by The History of Sun Clock (n.d.) on fi.edu website, Mesopotamian people looked at the shadow of the sundial to measure the time in hour and minute only. Sometimes it might not tell the exact time or can’t tell the time because of the rain or other natural phenomena. According to the second paragraph, the way to know time is to look at small screen on wrist in which it will show time in number with hour, minute, second, date, day, and month. Digital watch has shown more details than the sundial. It makes people to not waste their time walking to look at the sundial when people want to know what time is it now.

            Another point that is very different is design. The design of the sundial is very big. Some of the sundials were also having high base to contain sundial. As Instructions for mounting and using your sundial (n.d.) at hilaroad website has said that the shape of the sundial was rectangle with numbers to tell the time in a form of protractor (6 to 12 curves up, and 10-6 curves down using of geometry methods). Mesopotamian people can share one sundial with too many people, but for the digital watches, it is just for one person.  There are too many design of digital watch today because people have more want then the designer who has to design the watches has to create new designs of watch to make people but their products.  Marketing is the course of the new design. As the first paragraph has said that time is very important, so people need to buy watch to know the time. That’s why many designs have coming out every months and why people have to develop the watches.

            In conclusion, sundial and digital watch are very different from each other. Today, the new era of a very high technology, people have developed thing for their comfortable of living. Including an important thing like clock, people have developed clock to become small and it is easy to take a clock wherever they want to. Many design of digital watches make people want to buy and choose the one that suitable for them. Everyone want more comfortable and look cool, that’s why they have to develop things and change things from the past. However if there is no sundial, there is also no watch today.

The most important factor that affects every country today is war. Several wars in the past help shape each country and its people. Some countries in ancient time are so huge and powerful, but because of the wars, they lost their land and eventually became so small. In fact, some wars still continue since the past until today. As the time pass by, the different between ancient war and modern war become more and more as technology developed. The significant differences are the weapon, technique, and supplies.

Weapons seem to create the big gap between ancient and modern war. According to an article of Maya Pillai (2008) on buzzle.com, she concluded that roman military became one of the strongest during ancient time because of their sword and spear. This shows that most of the weapons used in ancient wars are swords, spears, arrows, and shield for protection. In modern time, the technology of making weapon had developed and many kind of more powerful weapons are created. Guns, bombs, tanks, etc. are eventually replace those old metal. They create more damage and could kill massive of people in very short time. Even unskilled person can kill others by just one shot.

The techniques used in ancient war and modern war are also different. In the past time, most of the wars in the past are bloody violence. Ancient wars often focus on making powerful weapon rather than planning. All they aim for is do whatever in cut sown enemy heads. As new wars occur, people start to have more tactics in wars. Now at a present day, war doesn’t mean to kill as much as could in order to win. Without proper decision, the country may end up with being ban by other countries. As Lloyd J. Matthews (2004) reported on his conference paper that country can win the war by win the peace. His report shows that modern wars concern more about peace. This idea leads to a new technique of war that actually can be winning without losing any life.

Another point that can’t be over-look is supply. In any wars, food supplies are very important. A person will absolutely die without food for energy. As John D. Billings wrote on his book (1887) he stated that providing food and material is often the decisive element in winning wars. In modern war, based on what John D. Billings wrote on his book (1887), a soldier often feed on canned meat food and condensed milk because it’s easy to take along and provide enough energy. But during the time of ancient wars, most of the food supplies are from crops. The war may stop as a result of lacking of grain while in modern war those canned foods are plenty. This often causes the ancient war to have such a long period of time to finish.

Even through there’re more differences between ancient war and modern war, but most of the wars are occurred on the same purpose. People start war because each of them believes that they’re right over the other. Some time it’s about territory, or sometime may be about religion. Whatever the reason is, all wars are destroyer. Wars destroy cities, arts, and ruin people life. Because of that, human are asking for peace. Without war, civilization would developed faster in the way that things are getting better and people live happily on the planet as no one life is taken by others.

My first day at NIVA International School

My first day at NIVA International School was not so good. Maybe I'm too excited, so I kept quiet all day. I saw my new friends as strangers. To be honest, I think I was too shy to talk to someone that I'm not used to. Somehow on the next day I could able to make new friends at new school. It was great.

The moment I stepped down from my car on first day at school, I remembered very well that my heart beat really fast. I felt extremely excited. I saw many students walking around and talk to each others like crazy. When it's homeroom time, I'm getting even more excited when I saw my new class mates. However, something inside me told me that everything going to be just fine. I'm very happy that they're all be nice to me. What I need is to speak more to start communication. I took me a week to feel more comfort at new class and new school.

Now I have many good friends at NIVA International School. Looking back at the past seems very funny. I used to be so nerd and shy that many boys don't like to be with. NIVA had changed me to be myself. I'm very glad that I'm here with my friends and would be really sad if the time I have to leave comes.

Exploding Laboratory

I compare myself as the new chemist who has just starting the first experiment in the laboratory. She had to prove herself by presenting the experiment to public to let others accept that she has ability to be the chemist in the scientist world. Well, she always thought that she’s the best, somehow, she was wrong. This chemist had failed.

When I was in grade 7 in my old school, I have had a chance to present my experiment on stage in Science Day. At that time, I felt like I’m visible for being student in the school because I almost never participated in any activities. Well, I did it with my 2 friends and my teacher was the one who chose the experiment for us. I played my role as the chemist because I had to mix some chemicals together with water into the beaker, then, put it on fire. The first few times that I tried, it was going well but sometimes struggled with fire. Just now the chemist was focusing on the experiment a lot. Suddenly one day, I went to practice with my friends during the flag line, we have already got excused. While we were putting the chemicals, it was because of the chemist mistake that she put too much water and put it on fire without knowing that disaster were waiting afterward. After that moment, I felt like someone chloroformed me, I couldn’t hear, see, or even remember anything after that moment. However, it was just about 10 seconds. After I got my mind, I looked around the laboratory with curious and realized that the chemist had failed the experiment, it was bomb! The beaker split apart into smaller pieces and expanded all around the room while everyone was shocking and frightening at the same time including me. Some of the pieces of beaker flew to my body, somehow I got hurt only a bit comparing to the pain that the chemist had bombed the lab. Anyway, my teacher didn’t scold me about it because everyone knew it well that it was the accident. The chemicals were too old to use so he removed it immediately after the accident occurred.

After I could get out from the lab, I asked my friends who were having flag line during that time and they all said that the explosion was so loud, in between, I didn’t hear anything, it happened so fast and it blurred me. Well, this sounds funny for me, burning laboratory. Somehow, I have learned the most important lesson in my life by experienced it. I have realized how important it is to listen to the instruction carefully or else I might get accident once again.

My first football ECA [ kasidit cherdchuchart Oody]

During grade 5, I and my friends love playing football. Everyday at morning, break and lunch we always played football and everyone is having fun. One day, the school stared the football ECA. The next day all of us join the football ECA and after the entire boring subject, at last we get to start the ECA. Our teacher is Mr. Scott, first he teaches us the basic of football but all of us think that it is boring to practice passing a ball. And for one week of the football practice, at last we got to play team. All of us feel hyper and ready to play anytime, I play suck on the game but my friends are playing very well. After that match I started to think, why I played so suck, not like other of my friends they play so well. So after that game I start to practice hard at all the basic and skill. After the practice we get to play team again and now I believe in my self and my friends. When we start the game I and my friends play as a team work and we won the game 4-2. After that match I feel happy and my mind is free, I feel that our team won the game because of our hard work and teamwork. From that time I believe that if we love something we should try hard and practice to achieve the goal.

            I was staring at a big orange building with my big bag and both of my hands were caring tons of books. It seemed like I was a weight-lifter who lifted weight in the final round of the lift weight tournament. I went straight to the huge two basketball course where the green bulletin board was situated. There were lots of white papers with too many alphabets on it. Suddenly, I saw one line from about 500 lines that totally got my full attention. That was my name! Thank god! Finally I know where I should go now. It was room 311 at the third floor. I felt very excited, very awestruck and very heavy while I walked upstairs going to that room.

            I heard some noisy voices and it was gradually louder when I slowly step up to the next staircases. When I almost reach my destination, I was halted at the staircase. There were so many people walked around and sat on the floor. Everyone was an alien; I couldn’t understand and have no idea about language that they used to speak to each other at all! I slowly walked up quietly to small empty space where I can put my bag and my books.

            The bell has rung for a while, and then a lot of people started to walk into the room. I’m a last person who went into the room. All seats are full except the two seats at back. I have no choice so I need to sit there with my twin sister. I can’t be able to see what is a black alien was written on the white board. When that black alien started to talk in the language that I can’t be able to understand, it was very fast that sound very strange to me. Later on, I knew that the black alien who stood in front of the room has given something for us to do, but I don’t know and can’t even see the board. God please helps me! As I was in a bad situation, my angel was suddenly appeared. She was a guy who sat next to me. She has lighted up my life. I didn’t know why she help me because we didn’t know other yet, or maybe she might felt pity to me and thought that why am I here. By the way, I need to give a very special thank to her. Her name is Gwen; actually we just know each other by name until now. She made me could be able to finish my work on time and sent it to that black alien. He is my homeroom teacher, Mr. Prasad from India.

            Finally, I am still alive at home. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to go home because I felt like I have gone to another world and couldn’t find the way to go back. This is how I felt about my first day at Niva International School.

First Lesson of Love

     Pretzel, 17-year-old girl who lives in a middle of a city, has been waiting for love true for so many years. However, she has a perfect life, everything is already prepared for her except true love. She's nice, beautiful and gentle to everyone which motivated so many guys to surrounded her. Still,these guys wanted her because they only look at her money and wanted to get benefit from her family.These guys never been honest to her and it hurts her a lot. She had learned the lessons of hurting from these guys and afraid to love others since then. One day, she met one guy who just moved into the town, well, his name is Lee Tye. He's real gentleman who makes every girls fall in love with him, including this pretty girl, Pretzel. Somehow, she's afraid to love someone so much again so she never spoke it out loud to anyone. As time passed, she has realized that nothing could be better without trying so she finally decided to tell him the truth, at least to try once in her life. Before all, she was really afraid that he would say no and might hate her forever since they didn't talk to each other a lot comparing to other girls. However, as the resolution, when she tried, the answer becomes "Yes" , and they have decided to be together. Well, their relationship were not quite well during the first 2 months. They fought, she cried, and he got disappointed at her. These things suffered their love and even motivated them to almost break up for 2 times. We could say that these struggling have tested them a lot and they finally passed through these times by holding each others' hands tightly. They love each other so much and almost never fight ever after.

Welcome to a show!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our circus show! Here you'll enjoy different kinds of shows. We got talking parrots, jumping through fire by lions, a big show from big elephant, and more! You don’t need to be worry about the show because all of our animals are well trained. We have lots of professional trainers from all over the world that could train our animals to perform many fantastic shows. We also made sure that our performers are living in good condition with good quality foods. It’s now a time for a show to start, please clap your hands to welcome our first show for tonight!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our circus show! We’re poor animals that being captured by cruel men. We live in small boxes unlike what we used to be freedom in the forest. We must do as they want in order to get foods and survive. Our dear friends the parrots must sing ugly songs, and young lions must play with fire, or even grandpa elephant must act dead. So please, please clap your hands for our toughness.

We’re ladies and gentlemen, all we have to do is just sit down and enjoy the show. Of course we paid for it so if they mess up we would complain. We’ll clap our hands now to being this delight show.

The School is like a deep sea [ Kasidit Cherdchuchart Oody]

It is like a world is spinging so fast, the time is running and the wind blew. Many things change when Tony hear the bell. The world stop spining, the time stop and everythings is not moving. Tony went under the deep sea, he was fish all around that place. The fist would only talk to the person who could speak under sea language. If any one is caught speaking human language, that person will be sent to the big shark. Tony need to adapt the language quicky in order to survive in this under sea. After Tony hear the bell again the world start to spin and the time is running again.

School and Grandmother's Will

I have a very big family because I’m Chinese so everyone has lived together in the same mansion. Last month, my lovely grandmother was passed away. Everyone knew that she have left her will somewhere in the mansion but we couldn’t find it yet. Because she liked to hide things around the mansion to let’s finding it together so we will be unity.

Day after day, we have tried very hard to find her will. Some of us felt discouraged and disheartened. We have encouraged each other and we started to search for the will again.

Finally, we have found our grandmother’s will inside our family photo. We felt very gladsome and happy. Our fatigue was immediately disappearing.

Why is Mamacita homesick?

Mamacita, as we know as the big mama of the man across the street. She came here because of her husband who works here, he saved his money to bring her and baby boy here so that she wouldn’t feel lonely. However, she only stays in her room and never came out with the feeling of missing her home so much. Someone said that because she can’t speak English, and even some said because she’s too fat to get down from the stairs. Somehow, maybe, she’s just missing her pink house from the photograph. Whatever the reason, she never came down and wouldn’t so.
First of all, as in my opinion, I think that she’s homesick because she couldn’t adjust to the people who lived there. As well as her basic standard of speaking English is so low which means that she can’t communicate with others and it makes her to feel more lonely because she usually speaks in Spanish in her own country. Based on the story, the author said that she can speak only eight words and this might be the reason that she’s afraid to speak in English. She’s afraid that others would laugh when she speaks and being inferiority finally.
Some said that because she’s too fat to come down from the third floors. The reason is that, so many people were talking about her body shape and characteristics which almost all in negative ways. This might hurt her feeling and feel shame on her and wouldn’t dare to come down to meet other people. The more rumors people said about her, the more she would feel bad about it and reminds her about her home in her own country.
The last possible reason might be because of the photograph of her home in her country. Her pink house with lots of light, this might, somehow, motivated her lots of being sick at the place she’s living at the moment and missing her own country. She sits all day long listening to the Spanish radio thinking about her home and singing along with the songs which also makes others feel disgusted on her. Other people might not understand her feeling but, some might know how lonely we would feel when we have left our own home, our own places to live somewhere else for some purposes. She’s a woman for somehow who has feeling like others, well, it’s not wrong.
Mamacita is just an ordinary woman who has sensitive feeling like others’ women. She’s missing her home so much with some reasons which other people who never left their own places might not understand her feeling. The feeling in which we have to live somewhere else with different languages which we never get used to it is so hard to get adjusted. People made the rumors about her in bad way such like fat and smelly, no one could accept this whether it’s true or not, somehow it’s so mean to that person. However, I think that the main reason is because of the language she uses in usual which is Spanish. People here usually use English and as her skills, she can speak only for eight words and it makes her afraid to speak because she doesn’t know how. Missing home is not wrong, however, she shouldn’t make others feel disgusted with her country by turning on radio and singing homesick songs from her country for all day long.

English essay the reason why short story doesn't need to follow grammar rules. [Kasidit Cherdchuchart Oody 10M ]

When we are writing a short story, the story come from our imagination, so there will be some words or sentence that didn’t follow grammar rules. Mostly short story are fiction and many part will mostly come from imagination. There are some words in short story which we can’t fine on dictionary. Some people think it’s not really matters about grammar when reading. The writer is another reason why there are grammar mistake. But for some people they didn’t care about grammar rules because they know it’s a fiction story.

Novel like Harry Potter also contain grammar error. As we read Harry Potter we will see that most parts of the story came from imagination. So there will be some words we don’t understand when we read Harry Potter. Many children learn to improve their writing and reading by reading fiction story. But most of fiction story contain many grammar mistake, so it would be hard for children to know that their grammar is wrong.

In short story some people didn’t pat attention about grammar. Some people think it’s not really matters, because they just want to have fun with the story and follow with their imagination. The writer may sometime make mistake in grammar, I think the writer didn’t want to have any grammar error in their story but no author will catch every error.

When we read a short story, it would be hard for you to find mistake because your mind will only be with the story not the grammar. In short fiction story, the rule of grammar is not important as the author’s writing rule. People usually concentrate on story not on grammar. So short story doesn’t matter on grammar but the ways the author wrote the story.

Now we know that writing a fiction story doesn't need to follow grammar rules. The first reason is because the readers concentrate more on the story more than grammar mistake. Short story mostly relay on imagination, so short story mostly is fiction. When we talk about fiction story, the first word that comes in our mind is it is not true. So the words author use also will come from imaginary, which we couldn’t find the meaning in the dictionary. This is the reason why short story doesn't need to follow grammar rules.

Do you like Mamacita? Am I? - by Oat 10M

No Speak English is one of the few stories that I read recently. It’s not as much fun as it could hold my breath, actually quiet boring, but do get my attention. When looking at big mama Mamacita, I think she’s not so goon person so I really don’t like her. She doesn’t care how much her husband work for family, doesn’t care to be adaptive, and doesn’t care about her child’s future. I don’t like this kind of person who being too stuck to something without caring others.

First of all, I don’t know why she doesn’t appreciate how her husband works so hard for family. Her husband worked two jobs, left early and came back late everyday just to keep family together. Mamacita seems doesn’t understand why he work hard for. That’s for her family, for their child, and yet for her to have those wonderful shoes but she still complain. She’s not the one who work hard for family, as a good wife she should do her best job take care of house works not just sit down there and sing a songs.

Mamacita is a kind of bullheaded person. She doesn’t care to make friends, to greet people, or at least she should try speaking English! That’s would make things easier and their family could live happily. Because of negative attitude, Mamacita often had a fight with her husband, she cried, but that’s because of her. I don’t know why she would make things more difficult, just open her mind and her heart everything would be fine.

Now a day English is important because it’s widely spoken around the world, by refuse it means you may light-off your future just like Mamacita want for her son. I really don’t know why she hates English so much, she may say no to it, but that doesn’t mean that her son should follow her too. He’s too young and things he receives will surely have a great impact in his life. If Mamacita don’t let him speak English, her child will lost a great opportunity to have a good job to work. A good mother shall care about her child’s future more than just her stubbornness.

As a conclusion, I would like to repeat again that I really don’t like Mamacita. I didn’t mean that hate her, but many of her characteristics are unacceptable by me. Mamacita may love her old days, but that’s too much that made she overlook many important things. I don’t know that the story end here or not, but if not I really want to know how Mamacita will live it through. I think I had learned many things from this short story and I’ll make sure that I myself won’t be like Mamacita for sure.

            Homesick occur when we need to move to different home environment as a feeling of missing home. Mamacita is one of the characters in a short story called “No Speak English”. In the story, she lives with her husband and her baby boy. I will say that mamacita is homesick because she has to leave Mexico, her old country, and came to America, she is afraid to speak English, and she always sat beside the window and played Spanish radio and sang all homesick songs about her old country.

Mamacita husband has jobs in America; he works very hard to save money to bring her and her child to Mongo Street, America. When mamacita arrived in her new house, she missed Mexico so much. She never leaves her country before, and she never leaves the house not because she is too fat and cannot pass through the stairs, but she doesn’t speak English. Although her husband has already changed the color of the house to be same as her old house in Mexico but she still cried. A new environment can made her become homesick. Nowhere is better than her own house in Mexico.

She is afraid to speak English or in other word she doesn’t speak any English. English is an ugly language that she couldn’t understand. She knew only eight words and only knew how to say: “He not here” when the landlord comes, “No speak English” if anybody else comes, and “Holy smokes”. It is hard to survive in the United State without knowing English. She asked her husband about when they will move back home (Mexico) which made her husband disgusted and screamed at her: We are home. This is home. Here I am I stay. Speak English. Speak English. Christ! Her child that she brought from Mexico also breaks her heart because he learned and can speak English in which she couldn’t understand and doesn’t want her child to speak English instead of Spanish (her country’s language). She doesn’t want to learn English because she is missing her home town and want to go back. She can accept only Spanish not English. This make her became lonely and wanted to go back home.

She always sat beside the window and listened to Spanish radio, sang all homesick songs about her country. This has shown a very strong feeling of homesick.  She can’t understand English so she is afraid to go outside meeting with new friend.  When she doesn’t understand what is other trying to say to her then she chose to be lonely and listen to Spanish radio which I think she might think that it will help her feel like she is home.

In conclusion, I could say that mamacita is homesick. Homesick can happen to us when we have to move to somewhere else that is not our home.  It may need a very long time to feel ok in new place. Home sweet home, nowhere is better than our house, nowhere is warm like our house, and nowhere is saved like our house!
